Statement on Today's Appellate Court Decision to Reinstate Citywide Referendum Question to March 19th Ballot

"This afternoon, the Illinois Appellate Court reinstated the citywide referendum question to the March 19th Primary ballot in Chicago. The initial judgment of the Circuit Court of Cook County is vacated, and the case is remanded with instructions to dismiss the complaint for lack of jurisdiction. 

All votes cast for the citywide question will be counted and reported by the Chicago Board of Elections on Election Night, March 19th."

Early Voting is Now Open in All of Chicago's 50 Wards for the March 19th Presidential Primary Election

Bilingual Voting Officials Assigned to 25 Sites; Language Access Resources Available at All Sites and on Election Day

Early Voting in all of Chicago’s 50 Wards started today, Monday, March 4 and will be open through Monday, March 18. These sites are open Weekdays from 9:00am to 6pm; Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm; and Sundays from 10:00am to 4:00pm. All Ward Early Voting locations and the Supersite will also be open as Vote Centers on Election Day, Tuesday, March 19, from 6:00am to 7:00pm. 

Statement on Today's Court Hearing Regarding the Citywide Referendum Question

“Today, Judge Kathleen Burke granted the Plaintiffs’ Motion for Judgment on the Pleadings and invalidated the citywide referendum question on the March 19th Primary ballot. 

The Circuit Court has not yet entered any written order based on the results of today's hearing. As such, the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners has not yet moved to appeal this decision and is still evaluating its options. 

Early Voting in Downtown Chicago Will Reopen on Wednesday, February 21 at 9:00am

Early Voting for the March 19, 2024 Presidential Primary Election in Downtown Chicago will reopen at the Supersite (191 N. Clark) and Board Offices (69 W. Washington, 6th Floor) on Wednesday, February 21 at 9:00am. 

Early Voting opened in Downtown Chicago on Thursday, February 15, but was paused late on Friday, February 16 due to court order from the Appellate Court of Illinois. Click here for more information.

Early Voting in Chicago is Paused Due to Court Order to Remove a Judicial Candidate

Early Voting for the March 19, 2024 Presidential Primary Election in Chicago has been paused due to court order from the Appellate Court of Illinois. See attached order below.

Early Voting at the Board Supersite (191 N. Clark) and Board Offices (69 W. Washington, 6th Floor) will remain closed until further notice. Board staff are working to reopen these sites as soon as possible.

National Voter Registration Day Focus: Youth Engagement

Chicago - In celebration of National Voter Registration Day, Chicago Election Board officials discussed various initiatives that will help engage more young voters in advance of the 2016 elections, including on-line registration, election-day registration, a mobile platform for web services, ongoing leadership in the hiring of young poll workers, and civics education.

Early Voting Starts Feb. 29 at 51 Sites in Chicago

Early Voting begins Monday at 51 Chicago sites 

Early Voting begins Mon., Feb. 29 at 51 locations in Chicago, and each site also will offer voter registration. 

Every site will be open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

Fourteen of these sites also will be open on Sun., March 6, weeknights March 7 through March 11, Sun., March 13 and Mon., March 14.  

Early Voting also will be offered on March 9 through March 11 at Northeastern Illinois University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Chicago State University.
