Chicago Board of Elections Celebrates National Voter Registration Day 2022

Today, the Chicago Board of Elections celebrates National Voter Registration Day and urged voters to step up and become poll workers for the upcoming November 8th General Election. The Board has a table in downtown Chicago at Daley Plaza (50 W. Washington) today, September 20th, from 10:00am to 4:00pm with staff to register voters and recruit poll workers.

National Voter Registration Day is held each year on a Tuesday in September. Since 2012, over 4.7 million voters have registered on the holiday. In Chicago, there are currently 1,518,320 registered voters.

“National Voter Registration Day is a wonderful way to celebrate becoming a Chicago voter and lift up all the community organizations and individuals who work so hard to register voters across our city. Every election is important, and we encourage voters to register before heading to the polls to make the process as quick and easy as possible ahead of the November 8th General Election,” said Marisel Hernandez, Chair, Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

In Illinois, regular registration continues until October 11, 2022. Online registration, including the ability to update your registration, closes October 23, 2022. Grace period registration and voting, which is the ability to register and vote on the same day, begins on October 12, 2022 and continues through Election Day. In Chicago, all Early Voting sites and precinct polling places will have voter registration services, where voters can register and then vote on the spot.

Voters interested in serving as poll workers should go to pollworker.chicagoelections.gov to learn more and apply.

“Being an election judge is a critically important job - we urge voters to help us defend democracy and sign up to become poll workers ahead of the next election in November,” added Chair Hernandez.

Early Voting begins October 7th in Chicago at the Chicago Board of Elections Supersite (191 N. Clark) and at the Board office at 69 W. Washington, 6th Floor. Weekdays from 9:00am to 6pm; Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm; Sundays from 10:00am to 4:00pm; and on Election Day (Nov. 8) from 6:00am to 7:00pm.

All 50 Ward Early Voting sites will be open from October 24 through November 8 (Election Day). These sites are open Weekdays from 9:00am to 6pm; Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm; Sundays from 10:00am to 4:00pm; and on Election Day (Nov. 8) from 6:00am to 7:00pm.
